iTOSCANI

“I Toscani” is the first wine of our estate. It was born as a tribute to a great man who loved sharing, happiness and good wine: my grandfather Fedele. He was a bright man who loved to be in good company but also taught us that good results derive from hard work and constant research. During the 40’s, Fedele was working as a photographer for the newspaper “Corriere della Sera” and realized the logo of “Rotofoto” - the first Italian image bank - which served as an inspiration for the label. Grapes used are Syrah and Teroldego.

These grapes even being distant relatives are capable of expressing different yet unique features. In order to provide further freshness, these grapes are fermented together with a small percentage of Petit Manseng and Greco grapes. In so doing, we have obtained a perfectly balanced wine with scents of intense black fruit derived from Teroldego and sweet spices from the Syrah, and a refreshing acidity from the white grapes.

VEDOMARE ROSSO

It has been years that I try to translate the breathtaking view that there is from the Syrah vines.

The rolling hills, the colors of the fields, the sea, the islands.

An ensemble of beauty that I wanted to translate into wine.

The elegance, the spices, and the fruits that the Syrah conveys in this bottle makes me go back to that vineyard every time.

I paint every label by hand, because every single bottle is different like the view from up there. Every single time is a unique experience, there is always a detail that I missed the time before.

O.T.

It may sound weird but making wine is not that different from taking a picture. I’ve grown up among images, and I’ve always been fascinated about the similarity that exists between these two forms of art. Oliviero Toscani says about photography: “Taking pictures is not about considering reality as an object, but making reality become an object. It is about putting dimensions back together: relief, movement, emotion, idea, meaning and desire to make everything real” Wine is about concentrating all in one bottle: vintage, nature, light, wind and experiences. We aim to find a balance among vines, tastes, smells, tannins and acidity. It is a matter of mixing a good amount of sensitivity and rigor in addition to a healthy kick of craziness. Everything matches. In taking pictures one can tell reality through sight. In making wine, one can tell reality through taste. Both arts are surprising and captivating. For this wine we use Syrah and Cabernet Franc grapes from well defined lots of the vineyard on draining and iron soils. The grapes are meticulously picked and selected by hand before they undergo fermentation in controlled temperature steel tanks. Aging occurs for 12 months in Slavonia oak barrels and eventually rest for about 36 months in bottles.

VIENI VIA CON ME.

Everyone of us has pronounced this sentence out loud and everyone has heard this at least once in a lifetime. It is a scary sentence because you never know the answer, but it also fills one’s heart when somebody asks you this question. The name of this wine stands for a love story, a journey, a job, a life, an experience. It symbolizes a starting point, an involvement, an offer and an invitation. I invite the drinkers of this wine to be part of our family, our land, research and sacrifices.

“vieni via con me.” is actually a tribute to the greatest wines of our area. It is a pure Cabernet franc that undergoes a long and meticolous maturity process followed by fermentation in steel tanks. It is later aged for about 12 months in 350 liters French oak tonneaux and eventually rests for 12 months in bottle.

LUMEO

A man once told me: “If you tell me about your children, you make me fall in love with them. If you tell me about somebody else’s children then it is one of the many stories...” Well then, let me tell you about my children: their names are Luce and Romeo. They are brilliant and funny. They laugh and cry. They learn from me and teach me. They show me the world from a different prospective by teaching me what the good things in life are. Why have I chosen the pigeon? My greatest passion is about homing pigeons which I’ve been training and racing for many years. For me they mean escape, a passion. They are my children too whose presence I cannot miss. I see myself in these homing pigeons; they are stuck to the place where they raised and wherever they are released they fly to come back home. Sometimes they manage to fly for thousands of miles in a day to come back. This has always been my path in life. Wherever I’ve been, I have always felt the need to go back to the place where I grew up.

Lumeo is made with Syrah grapes. These are fermented and macerated for about six months in terracotta and cocciopesto vats adding a small percentage of white grapes of Greco. This is a very unique expression of Syrah in coastal Tuscany.

LOLÍ

Once upon a time my father decided to import the first Appaloosa breed horse to Italy. These are the horses of the Native Americans and are characterized by spots on their bottoms. The first horse came by airplane. It was a very unusual event at that time. The fact was bizarre enough that an artist from Milan decided to portray the horse with wings. This very image later became the first logo of our estate. “Lolí” actually represents that horse, which came from America, an elegant, bizarre, unique and unforgettable creature. We pick the Syrah grapes just after veraison and make a rose wine according to an ancestral production method. This is a unique wine, which has a bright pink peach color and features an extremely fine and elegant perlage. Treated “Pét Nut” this wine reflects a slight shady color yet provides primary elegant smells of red fruits, grapefruit and fresh green apples together with the smell of fermenting wine.

Fermentation: controlled temperature in steel tanks

Aging: 3 months into bottle.

VEDOMARE

Massimo is for me a second father, a brother and a friend. Massimo was born and raised next to our vineyard. Massimo has been working with us since 1969. He taught me everything I know about the country. From his house he can see the sea.

Rocco: ”Massimo, what do we do with these four rows of Greco grapes?” “What about a white wine?”

Massimo: “How come a white wine?” “Shouldn’t we use Greco grapes combining them with Syrah?”

R: “I actually believe we can produce a special, elegant wine rich in sapidity!” e do that?”

R: “just the way you did it with your father when you were a kid...”

M: “Do we leave it on the skins?”

R: “Absolutely”

M: “But it is not fancy anymore...” “Don’t you want to filter it?”

Rocco: “No way”

Massimo: “And what are we going to call it?”

Rocco: “Vedomare (I see the sea) as if we were looking down from the vineyard”

In the past in our region wine was made like that. These are traditions lost with time and memories to be cherished with one’s childhood.
